After CNN reported that Anoka-Hennepin was being investigated by The Department of Justice and The Department Education, The Southern Poverty Law Center and The National Center for Lesbian Rights called a press conference where they revealed that they are filing a Federal lawsuit on behalf of several students and families.  This piece from The Minnesota Independent reveals the sequence of events leading up to the lawsuit.

The Anoka-Hennepin Gay Equity team is proud to co-sponsor the first annual Anoka LGBTQ Youth Pride.  The free event will involve outdoor games, face painting, crafts, food, and a raffle.  The event’s sponsors include the United Church of Christ Anoka, the Anoka-Hennepin Gay Equity Team, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of Anoka/North Metro (PFLAG), and Justin’s Gift.  The event is geared toward LGBTQ students in the the Anoka-Hennepin school district and their allies and families.

Festivities will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Mississippi River Community Park in Anoka. Visit Anoka Youth Pride for more information and volunteer opportunities. Follow Anoka LGBTQ Pride on Twitter @AnokaYouthPride.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) have demanded that Minnesota’s Anoka-Hennepin School District take immediate action to stop the bullying of LGBT students by dropping its so-called “neutrality” policy.

Tell the District to do the right thing today: drop the “gag” policy and protect the rights of all LGBT students!

Change.org has started this petition to urge the School Board to drop this censorship policy. Click here to sign it!
